If the sliding key lock is faulty and the window won't open, one option is to drill out the lock barrel. To do this, use a small metal drill bit to carefully drill through the centre of the lock. Once the barrel is drilled out, it should release the locking mechanism and allow you to open the window. Afterwards, you’ll need to replace the lock with a new one. Make sure to measure your current lock to get the right size replacement.
It’s crucial to be exceptionally careful when working around glass. Always wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, a long-sleeved shirt, trousers, and enclosed footwear, to minimise the risk of injury from broken glass or sharp edges.
Alternatively, if you’re unsure about drilling or concerned about damaging the window frame, enlisting the services of a locksmith could be a safer option. A locksmith can either unlock the window or potentially cut a new key, depending on the condition of the lock. This approach might save you from having to replace the lock altogether.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
