Hey there,
I've got this very old rangehood hood on top of the kitchen for a property I'm looking to rent out. There isn't a powered rangehood, it's just a hole that leads up to presumably the vent out of the roof.
I want to replace it with a functioning rangehood that meets rental codes but have no idea where to start. Do I need to remove the hood thing before I buy/install a new rangehood? If so, how? There are a few knobs that might be screws but they've been painted over so would have to strip the paint or whatever it is over this thing. Are hoods like this usually screwed on to some kind of frame under the plasterboard?
Many thanks!

It looks like it would be relatively easy for an electrician to install a rangehood given you have much of the infrastructure in place. Bunnings has an electrical installation service that you might be able to utilise. I think the first step is to carefully measure the current cavity and share it with us, and one of our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. experts would be happy to suggest a rangehood that would suit.
Thanks,
Jason
Thanks @Jason. One thing I'm wary about is the minimum distance between cooktop and rangehood. I think as it stands, the distance is too small. But if I was to buy a rangehood and get it fitted via Bunnings, would they check those distances and make sure the new one is compliant.
The hole opening is pretty much 900mm so I think is a fairly standard size for many rangehoods.
Hello @bananafish05
The distance between your cooktop and the bottom of the rangehood must at least be 700mm for a gas cooktop. If there is not enough space the cabinet will need to be modified in order for the rangehood to fit. Plus, if there is no power point nearby your electrician will need to wire in a new point for the rangehood to use.
I suggest measuring the cabinet space so that you can determine what type of rangehood you can install in the space. I propose looking at the Bellini 60cm Stainless Steel Slimline Rangehood along with the Bellini 90cm Stainless Steel Slide Out Rangehood. If you avail yourself of the electrical installation service, please make sure to bring photos and measurements of the cabinet so that the in-store kitchen specialist can help you organize an installation.
