How to fix rangehood with no suction?

This week I had a rangehood installed and the fans work at different speeds but there is almost 0 suction even though the extraction should be between 2000-3000m3/hr. I tested the suction placing a piece of paper directly under the filters and there was no suction. I removed the filters and placed the paper directly onto the fan and it stuck momentarily but then fell off.

What are some possible reasons for this? What are some things I can check determine if the error is due to installation or if the product itself is faulty.

Re: My rangehood has no suction

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @mkovacic. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about rangehoods.

3000m3/hr would be an extremely high-volume extractor. Most in our range top out at 1000m3/hr. Is it possible that your unit is 200-300m3/hr? If so, that would be on the lower end of extraction typically seen on budget-friendly units such as the Bellini 60cm Slide Out Rangehood White Finish with S/S Fascia. However, even at 300m3/hr, a piece of paper would likely stick to the filter.

Is this a ducted or non-ducted unit, and if it is one of our products, could you please link to it?

I suspect that the most likely cause of insufficient airflow is that the output is blocked. If this is a recirculating model, ensure it is set to that mode, as if it's trying to push the air out the duct port and that is blocked, the suction will be affected.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: My rangehood has no suction

Hi @mkovacic and @MitchellMc

"I tested the suction placing a piece of paper directly under the filters"

I love a good experiment. My exhaust fan is a no-name three-speed system similar to that Bellini above. Non-ducted.

At the lowest setting - it sticks an A4 sheet like glue.

I kept ripping the paper smaller and smaller - even a postage stamp sized piece of paper will 'stick'. There was no need to experiment further with speed 2 or 3.

Re: My rangehood has no suction

Thanks for such a quick response Mitchell.

The rangehood is 1500mm BBQ rangehood - it's a whopper and the extraction rate is as per the manufacturer's specs.

The duct is brand new and it's not a long run according to my electrician.

I have attached some images if that helps

Re: My rangehood has no suction

Hello @mkovacic

Thanks for sharing those pictures of your rangehood. I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with your rangehood model. However, I suspect that either an exit cover was left in place or there is a setting that has not been activated in your rangehood and is preventing the air from flowing properly. I strongly suggest double checking your operator's manual and going through the initial setup of the rangehood. If it still refuses to operate properly, I suggest contacting the store where you purchased the rangehood from.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
