How to ensure soft close runners match pre drilled holes in Kaboodle cabinet?

Hi.

The holes in the runners and the holes in the cabinet do not align.

Do I use the pre drilled home nearest the front of the cabinet to locate the runner and drill new holes for the rest of the runner?

This would mean the runner protrudes beyond the edge of the cabinet 4mm, with a 10mm gap between the end of the runner and the back of the cabinet.

Thanks in advance 😁

Re: How to ensure soft close runners match pre drilled holes in Kaboodle cabinet?

Hello @margoburl

It would be best to have the runner towards the back of the cabinet rather having it protrude at the front. I propose using the pre-drilled spot in the middle. However, the goal is to make sure that the runner does not go past the side of the cabinet.

When you find that middle spot or the spot that gives you good balance that would be where you need to put the first screw in. Please make sure to use a spirit level to make sure that the drawer runner is level and not leaning up or down. Mark its position well with a pencil and put new screws at the front and back of the runner.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Thanks Eric

I've watched a lot of UTUTube videos now ... everything being square and level seems to be imperative to avoid heartache & insanity 😁

Hi @margoburl

I can't emphasize enough that everything be square and level. The last thing you want to happen is to have your drawers sliding open on their own.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Re: How to ensure soft close runners match pre drilled holes in Kaboodle cabinet?

Hi, just jumping in on this one as I'm having the same problem. So does this mean that none of the pre drilled holes actually match up and I have to measure and drill the holes from scratch? Or have I still got something around the wrong way? I just keep wondering if it's my error, or if the holes are just not right, because I've got no matches at all.

Thanks!

Re: How to ensure soft close runners match pre drilled holes in Kaboodle cabinet?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @LizP. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing Kaboodle runners.

With the runner positioned a millimetre or so back from the front edge of the carcass side, at least two holes on the Kaboodle runners and three holes on the Hettich runners will align with pre-drilled locations. So, close the runner and position it at the front edge. Open the runner and check for holes. Slide the runner back slightly to reveal holes if none are seen initially.

In @margoburl's image above, the slides are positioned too far back against the rear wall of the carcass; they need to be brought forward.

If you position the runner at the front edge and then open it, you can take an image, and I can point out which holes marry up. Just make sure to have the runner not sitting directly on top of the holes so I can see them.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitchell,

Thanks so much for the response. I did what you said and found no holes. I've attached a few pics. The first is with the runner turned around so you can see that there are no holes.

Thoughts? Am I still missing something?

Re: How to ensure soft close runners match pre drilled holes in Kaboodle cabinet?

Hi @LizP,

It's the bracket side that needs to be placed about 1mm back from the front edge. Move it forward as in the image below. The Kaboodle team have confirmed that the sliding portion should protrude past the front edge. When the drawer is installed the soft close mechanism will allow the slider to compress fully into the track.
