How to disconnect a dishwasher?

Hi

I have been reading replies by MitchellMc and wondered if he could help:

I am a regular Bunnings customer, usually at your Tuggeranong store, and have FlyBuys card.

My LG dishwasher, now about 5 years old, came up with an error message AE recently and  I Googled for advice. As it seems I might need a technician – and a $200 service call fee – we decided to leave things for a while and revert to hand dishwashing!

I switched off and unplugged the power cord under the sink, and turned off a small tap (with a blue dot as in one of your pictures).

However, I then realised there was no cold water in the kitchen mixer tap.

I looked underneath again, and could not find a separate tap for the dishwater inlet hose. But there is a small grey plastic box between the bottom of the tap and the top of the hose.

This doesn’t seem to be a tap of any sort and I wondered if it was some new kind of water hammer arrestor.

Will try to attach top and bottom photos, but can’t remove the shelf with a hole in it!

My concern is that, after a week or so, some water has accumulated inside the bottom of the dishwasher, suggesting some sort of leak. In time, could overflow and damage untiled floor!

Grateful for any advice you can offer

Re: How to fix dishwasher problem

Hello @PeterCarroll

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your dishwasher.

The small grey plastic box you are looking at could be a feature of the LG inlet hose. It is usually an anti-leak/burst device that keeps the water inside the hose. To remove the inlet hose simply turn the hose end anticlockwise. Please make sure you have a towel and a small catch basin at the bottom to catch any water dripping out of the tap and hose. Please make sure that the tap is in the off position before you begin. If the fitting is too tight, I recommend using a  Craftright 250mm Multigrip Plier to turn the hose fitting. I've placed an image below with a yellow circle indicating which part to turn.

To cover the "T" junction outlet, I suggest using a Brasshards 20mm Brass Threaded Cap. Please make sure to use Kinetic 12mm x 10m White Standard Thread Seal on the threaded section of the fitting before you screw the brass threaded cap on. Should you get a residual leak add more tape until the fitting is tight and the leak stops.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
