Removed the 50’s kitchen ( hats off to the woman who raised their families out of this kitchen), removing asbestos and starting with a blank canvas. Due to the size of the kitchen 2.14 x 2.5 layout was priority so we could fit everything in especially the fridge (which is flush with the cupboards). Lots of measuring, finally calling for a Bunnings measure and quote to get started and to keep the cost down. We had to do as much for ourselves as possible and within skill level.
The asbestos removal man (authorised) was a semi retired builder who was sympathetic with our requirements and had the time and connections to help us. So with his guidance/ assistance we got the job started. It took 3 months due to time availability and reordering of a bench top. The cost of the Reno was way more than anticipated but it’s done now and works well while looking good. So thanks Monica and Adam from Bunnings Tamworth job well done.

Hi @juliethomas,
Thank you for sharing this fantastic kitchen reno and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
It's fantastic to hear that you were able to safely remove the old asbestos and replace it with modern, safe materials.
It sounds like you put in the hard yards to get this kitchen done, but it all paid off because what you've produced is fabulous.
The colours are quite different, but somehow, they work very well together. A bold choice that has paid off in spades.
That tiled backsplash is mesmerising and, in my opinion, this is the highlight of the room.
Congratulations on a fantastic job and once again, thank you for sharing.
Jacob
Thank you.
The tiles were a challenge to source and were a last minute discovery hidden behind others, as soon as I saw them I knew they were it. The paprika cupboards are not shy so stronger tile colours were needed to have a coherent colour palette and to compliment the CandyFloss wall cupboards. The Paprika and Candy Floss combination were from last years Bunnings magazine kitchen article. What gives the cupboards a stronger presence is the bench height is 900 mm (kick board 190mm) because the Cook is 175cm tall so comfort and ease of use were a consideration.
