My one year old lilly pilly hedge has lots of yellow/brown leaves. I have sprayed with copper oxychloride and regularly spray with white oil. I water 2 to 3 times per week. My amateur diagnosis is too much water. Any thoughts?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @neilpeace. It's great to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about Lilly Pilly care.
The browning leaves on your Lilly Pilly hedge might not necessarily indicate a problem, especially if the discolouration is primarily on the growing tips. Lilly Pilly plants naturally produce new growth that starts as crimson red, transitions through shades of brown, and eventually turns green. This process is completely normal and might be what you’re observing.
However, if the older, established leaves that have been green for a year or more are yellowing or browning, it could suggest other issues. Overwatering is a potential concern, as excessive moisture can lead to root stress or fungal problems. Consider reducing your watering frequency slightly and monitoring the soil to ensure it’s moist but not waterlogged. Additionally, maintaining a balanced fertiliser schedule can help support overall plant health.
