How to lay artificial grass?

Hello,

I am getting quotes to install Artificial Grass that is Pet friendly and found https://k9grass.com.au/, they said it will be a minimum of 5K 3.5x3.5 m and I am thinking of doing it my self as per  - https://www.bunnings.com.au/diy-advice/garden/lawn/how-to-lay-synthetic-turf

I want to put high quality turf my self and have some questions;

1. What is the best Turf for Pet? (Non-toxic, Headblock resistant, pet-safe, Urethane Backing, Polyethylene)

2. Can I purchase ZeroFill from Bunnings - https://k9grass.com.au/oc-zeofill/

3. What is a good weed mat.

4. I was going to use Roadbase to compact and create a solid base as I want to exercise on top of it in the future.  What product should I use for sand or roadbase.

5. What is the best way to kill the weeds and remove the grass.

Re: How to lay artificial grass?

Hello @JustinMcAbbe

The pet friendly turf the store carries is the Tuff Turf 1.8 x 5m 25mm Pile K9 Tuff Synthetic Turf. I'll try to get more details regarding its composition.

I'm sorry but Zeofill is currently unavailable at the store. For the weedmat, I suggest Pillar 1.8 x 10m Black Landscapers Weedmat - 10m. It is a non-woven weed barrier and is UV stabilised.

For the road base the store carries the Centenary Landscaping 1T Road Base and is ideal for compaction. I suggest looking at the Ki Carma 20kg Synthetic Turf Infil Landscape Sand.  The synthetic turf sand is double washed to remove dirt, dust and contaminants.

In regards to the weeds, I propose tilling the land to remove all the turf. This would be the safe way to do it and thereby preventing your soil or your surroundings from being exposed to any chemical agents.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: How to lay artificial grass?

Hi @JustinMcAbbe,

Our Tuff Turf 1.8 x 5m 25mm Pile K9 Tuff Synthetic Turf also has an anti-bacterial backing, is non-toxic, pet-safe and has a urethane backing. Regarding heat-blocking technologies, all the synthetic grasses that I've come across do get quite hot in summer in full sun.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Re: How to lay artificial grass?

Thank you for the response, What is the best way to Glue Tuff Turf 1.8 x 5m 25mm Pile K9 Tuff Synthetic Turf together?

Re: How to lay artificial grass?

Hi @JustinMcAbbe,

For joining section of the turf, Tuff Turf 150mm x 5m Synthetic Turf Joining Tape is the correct product to use. There is the adhesive, but that's for glueing turf down to solid substrates.

Re: How to lay artificial grass?

Hello,

What is the ideal depth for Roadbase?

Re: How to lay artificial grass?

Hi @JustinMcAbbe,

50mm would be sufficient, but 100mm would be ideal. It really depends on how much soil you're willing to remove. To add 100mm of roadbase, you'd need to remove 80mm of soil. The roadbase will then compact down to fill the space.
