An established community garden growing a range of vegetables in raised garden beds. It was the winner of best community project in our 2024 search for Australia's best D.I.Y. projects.
The project
This community garden is in Brooklyn Park, South Australia. Three years on we now have more beds and a wide variety of vegetables growing, which are enjoyed by the village residents.
We are growing broad beans, lettuce, radishes, spinach, rocket, carrots, silver beets, capsicum, celery, spring onions, salad onions, snow peas, beetroot, garlic, rhubarb, and seasonal herbs.
We first prepared, levelled and cleaned the site. Then assembled and built raised garden beds. They were then filled with soil, potting, and compost mix before planting seeds and seedlings.
