The Bunnings Workshop community can help with your home improvement projects.
Most Bunnings stores will happily provide you with free pallets whenever they are available. Just speak to one of the helpful team members in the Timber Yard at your local store and they will be able to point you in the right direction.
To avoid disappointment, we always recommend to give the store a call before visiting to ensure they have supply.
Pallets come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Hello @dexterbishwo
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's marvellous to have you join us.
Let me give the Darwin store a call tomorrow and find out if they have any pallets to give away. How many pallets were you planning on using for your project? As soon as I have more information, I'll let you know.
Eric
Hi eric,
I was hoping to get 6 pallets.
Hello @dexterbishwo
I've just been in contact with Bunnings Darwin, and they only currently have the half pallets and have none of the regular sized ones. However, the team member at the timber yard said to call back next week as they might have more pallets available then. I suggest giving the store a call and speaking to a team member in the timber yard before going to the store next week.

Jason - i am looking for a pallet to support the closed base compost bin. bin base is 80 x 80 cm. pallet will be sitting on ground so needs to be hardwood or perhaps plastic if not effected by weather. can you help me? Linda
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @lindahandy. It's a pleasure to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about acquiring pallets.
Typically the pallets you'll see available for collection are constructed from Pine. We would seldom get or put out for collection plastic or hardwood pallets. You might like to have a word with the team members at your local store, and they might be able to keep an eye out for you.
I'd suggest that if you were to use a standard Pine pallet and paint it with Gripset Betta 1L Waterproofing Membrane Bitumen Rubber it would extend its lifespan dramatically. I have Pine pallets that have been outside for several years and are only now showing signs of decay. Given the Pine pallets are free, you could always pick one up now and use it for a few years before replacing it with another one.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

thankyou for your reply. I am hoping not to have to repeat the replacement even in a couple of years....I am a 'senior' and it was a lot of work to empty the bin, get out the rotten pallet and reorganise the area.. that's why i was looking at the plastic alternative. hoping for longevity. will look at the bitumen paint idea.
Hi,
Just wanted to know where i can get free pallets.
I live close to seven hills. Will the bunnings there have free pallets?
Hi @sarita-david,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community! It is awesome you have joined and we hope you find Workshop to be a great source of advice and inspiration. What are you looking to build with the pallets? I definitely suggest checking out this great article Top 10 most popular pallet projects for some bonus inspiration.
The best way to get pallets is to give your local Bunnings a call and ask to speak to the timber yard. They will let you know what is available. Bunnings Seven Hills number is (02) 9679 3300.
We are always happy to help should you need more advice on your D.I.Y. projects.

Hi, can anyone tell me where I can get used plastic palettes?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Markus01. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about plastic pallets.
Hardwood and plastic pallets are typically owned by the supply company and get returned to the sender after the goods arrive. Unlike Pine pallets that are recycled after use, we are unable to put plastic pallets out for collection.
What were you planning on using them for? Perhaps our members might have some other suggestions.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
