How to replace Fowler Dual flushing cistern outlet valve?

Hi,

There is a constant trickle from the cistern into the bowl. The flushing outlet valve is the problem and needs replacing.
Our toilet is an old 9L Fowler (which was bought by Caroma).

The flap on the side is also broken off (refer to images).

Ideally I would just like a new flushing outlet valve, rather than replacing the whole toilet/cistern.

Any advice will be helpful or locating a new part that will be compatible with this toilet.

Hello @ellenah

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your Fowler cistern.

In this instance, I suggest engaging the services of licensed plumber to replace your flushing unit. It's possible that the Kinetic Round And Oval Button Dual Flush Outlet Valve Kit might work with your old cistern set, but this is something your plumber will have to verify. Although your ceramic toilet suite is still in good condition, finding spare parts for it is becoming very difficult and costly.

I propose comparing getting a new toilet suite such as the Mondella Cadenza Close Coupled Rimless Toilet Suite, plus the cost of installation versus the cost of rare parts and professional repair. Should you decide to install a new toilet suite, I recommend having a look at the toilet installation service offered by the store.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: How to replace Fowler Dual flushing cistern outlet valve?

ellenah,

I have exactly the same problem that you show in the photos attached to your post: namely the flap broken off the side of the small reservoir in the cistern and the leaking water from the cistern into the toilet bowl.  I've not been able to solve the broken flap issue as I've not been able to identify what the model number is of the Fowler dual flushing valve.  I did manage to solve my leak by replacing the leaking fill valve seal with a Fluidmaster seal that fitted the Fluidmaster model 400 fill valve in the cistern.  The photos are of the old leaking valve.

Can you share what you did to fix the leaking cistern?

Cheers,

Joe

Re: How to replace Fowler Dual flushing cistern outlet valve?

Hello @JoeLux

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us.

Thanks for sharing your solution in regards to your filling valve. Let me tag @ellenah to make them aware of your question. As I've mentioned in my last post, Fowler spare parts are getting difficult to source because they have been discontinued. The only other suggestion I can recommend is to look at generic flushing systems such as the Kinetic Round And Oval Button Dual Flush Outlet Valve Kit. But you will need the services of a licensed plumber to make sure that the flushing valve is compatible. Otherwise, it might be time to upgrade the toilet suit to a new model.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
