How to remove Rustoleum tub and tile paint?

hi I was wondering if anyone has ever removed rust oleum tub and tile paint from the bath tub and what they used to remove this or what the best method was.

My bathtub  has started to Bubble since this was painted last a few years ago and I would like to remove it and redo it with as least effort with removing it as possible 🤣

Re: removal of rustoleum tub and tile paint

Hi @Sammie2703,

It sounds like the existing paint is delaminating, likely due to poor adhesion or prolonged moisture exposure. If the bubbling is isolated, you can try chipping away just the affected area and sanding the edges to create a smooth transition before using the Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Touch-Up Kit for a spot repair.

However, if the paint continues to peel in large sheets, it means the bond was weak overall, and a full removal will be necessary before repainting. To strip the old coating, you can try a combination of a razor scraper and abrasive sanding (using wet/dry sandpaper around 120-220 grit). Be mindful of ventilation and protective gear like a face mask when sanding.

I've refinished my bathtub a couple of times over the years, and I found that suction-cup bath mats were the biggest culprit in lifting the paint. If you do decide to repaint, avoid using them to help prolong the finish.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
