How to install Mondella Shower Mixer Tap? (Model MON0765)

Hi everyone,
I am trying to replace my existing shower mixer with Mondella Shower Mixer (block color) model number: MON0765. However, after opening the box, I could not take out the cartridge from this new tap. According to Youtube, I should be able to remove the cartridge from the new tap and replace it with the old cartridge inside the existing shower mixer. Is the cartridge in this new Mondella tap that I bought un-detachable?tap.JPG

Hello @Jamil

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fantastic to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about installing a Mondella shower mixer tap.

Before dismantling the shower mixer, please be aware that the black square body can't be transferred to your existing shower body. The square shower body is permanently attached to the brass inlet part at the back of the shower mixer. In order to gain access to the cartridge, the handle must first be removed. There is a black cover that is at the bottom of the body of the handle. Once you remove this plastic cap you'll be able to see the grub screw that is holding the handle in place. You'll need to use an Allen key to remove the grub screw. When the grub screw has been removed you should be able to remove the handle.

The next part will be the cover cap of the shower body, hold it firmly and twist it anti-clockwise. Once you remove the cover you should now see the brass locking nut. Use an adjustable shifter to remove the brass nut and the cartridge can now be pulled out.

However, if you are after a repair cartridge, I suggest holding off on the disassembly and looking at the Mixer Tap Cartridge range. There are a few choices and these cartridges generally fit most units. The Mondella shower mixer tap is generally installed by removing the old shower mixer body from the wall. In this particular instance, I recommend engaging the services of a registered plumber. This will guarantee the work and cover you for the warranty of the unit.

In the interest of safety please remember to turn off your mains water supply before attempting any plumbing work. Please make sure to wear safety equipment such as gloves, safety goggles and a dust mask when removing the old shower mixer from a tiled wall.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: How to install Mondella Shower Mixer Tap (Model MON0765)

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply. In that case, I will have to return this tap to Bunnings as I want to install a tap myself easily without calling a plumber. Can you please tell me what is the cartridge size of my existing tap by looking at this attached picture? I need a tap mixture which I can easily take the old cartridge out and replace with a new cartidge and the new tap.

I am not trying to repair anything, just want to change the look with a new black tap. Thank you.

Hi @Jamil,

Thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately, shower mixer taps don't work that way. They're not like a sink tap where you can just easily remove the tap and washer and replace it with a new style; it's a little more involved than that. As @EricL mentioned, the whole assembly needs to be replaced, and you need a plumber to do this for you.

Perhaps you might like to take a look at this wonderful project by @lifestylebymari, where she shows how to update your existing chrome tapware with spray paint: Spray painted tapware. She achieved some wonderful results, and it looks like you could too.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hello @Jamil

thank you for the tag @MitchellMc

Apart from not wanting to spend too much money, another reason I gave spray paint a try was because how challenging bath taps can be to change without a plumber.

I cant recommend spray painting enough, its such an easy solution - very budget friendly and easy application.

Cant wait to see how it turns out
