Toilet is filling the cistern constantly
and running into the bowl. I am trying to open the cistern lid but cannot undo the flush button. Any help appreciated. Pic of the button below.
Hello @tony3514
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your toilet flush button.
This appears to be a dual-flush push button from a Fowler Ware toilet cistern, which was commonly used in older Australian homes. To remove it, start by unscrewing the button, as most designs like this are threaded into the cistern lid. Try turning the outer ring counterclockwise by hand, but if it's stuck, using a rubber glove to help with the grip.
Once unscrewed, carefully lift the cistern lid, keeping in mind that the button may be attached to rods or cables leading to the flush valve, so take note of their positions. Inside the cistern, the button is usually connected to the flush mechanism through rods or a cable system, which may need to be unclipped or unscrewed to fully remove the button for cleaning or replacement.
If you area after a replacement, I suggest bringing the old part with you to the store so that you can compare it with the ones available on the shelf. I've placed an image below to give you an idea which parts you'll need to unscrew. Please note that the parts you are unscrewing are old and could possibly be brittle. Please take great care in applying force to the plastic parts.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
