Hi everybody - I am new here and seeking your expert guidance on how I can repaint the outdoor unit of my split aircon (pic attached). Thank you.

GG
Hi @gautam41in
Well that rust set in on the louver area and no doubt rusty inside the unit too but we can return some life to it.
You shouldnt take the cover off to restore so leave it in place.
The first thing to do is brush A liquid called rust converter all over the units out side, and a thick coating over and into the louver section might get on to some inside rust as well a bonus. Or use a pressure can like spray paint is easest
Dont try to spray liquids into the unit as there are electricals in there and may cause damage,
Let the rust converter dry and wipe of excess the rust usually turns black in colour when the rust converter process is complete.
In this case where the metal case cant be cleaned to bare metal easily I would simply use a top spray metal paint .
This is not an ideal solution and I expect the rust to come back in 5 years or so But the air con looks old and should be replaced sooner or later,
This paint comes in cream colour to if that is your preference Use short controlled sweeping spray can squirts at 15 cm distance with no wind blowing.
So mask the wall from excess paint as well as the tiles using newspaper or card board.
thank you so much for your response. I will follow the steps and report back with results. I agree that the unit is old but honestly it works very well so I don’t want to give up on it so easily. Thank you again.

GG
I agree @gautam41in
We will keep that air con looking as good as possible protected from rust as long as possible while it is still running sweet,
