interior painting of a damp brick wall

Hi - I want to paint an interior wall which gets damp (the exterior is partly underground). Do Bunnings sell any breathable paints?

Re: interior painting of a damp brick wall

Hello @btnw

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your questions about your brick wall.

Generally speaking, in order to stop the rising damp that is coming through your brick wall, the other side or exterior part of the brick wall must be sealed with a waterproof membrane such as Gripset Betta 1L Waterproofing Membrane Bitumen Rubber. However, if access to the outside wall is not possible, the only other product I can suggest is Dunlop 4L Damp-Proof Waterproofing. It will prevent rising damp, efflorescence and will resist negative hydrostatic pressure. It has excellent adhesion to most substrates including brick, masonry, concrete block, concrete, stone and timber and is simple to apply with a brush or roller.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
