Hi,
I have issue with my gutters and one of the doesn't its job at all. It's 415cm long with no/ wrong slope. Water does flow through the gutter and keep overflowing. Also it's 2 pieces which are not sealed properly.
I want to :
1- replace it with a new piece instead of 2 pieces if it's possible
2- fix the slope
Never done it before but want to give it a try
🙂
Thanks
Sam
Hi Sam (@Samnet),
There's a bit to the process and if you have never done it before it can be a bit daunting. Everything is very achievable in a D.I.Y. capacity, however, it may be worth having a professional roof plumber assist as this will ensure everything is up to standard and there are no further issues.
If you'd like to give it a try, the basic process would be as follows.
Start by removing the old gutter and downpipe. Detach it carefully from the brackets, check for damage to the fascia board, and repair it as needed. Measure the correct slope for the new gutter, which is roughly a 6mm drop for every 3 meters toward the downspout and mark it with a string or chalk line.
Install new brackets, which correspond to the specific gutter profile you're using, along the marked slope, ensuring they’re spaced about 1 meter apart. At 4 metres in length, you can use a single-piece gutter to avoid leaks. Cut it to the correct length, secure it to the brackets, and ensure it follows the slope.
You'll then need to replace the downpipe which will involve cutting a hole in the gutter, installing a downpipe pop and sealing with roof and gutter silicone.
If there are other gutters that feed around corners into this one, you will need to match the profile so you can install a gutter corner. If not, you will need to install gutter end caps.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
