Hi I have a 20 years old house with colorbond/metal roof. I am just wondering should I have to colour roof as part of maintenance as I am thinking to have solar panel installed.
What should I need to do for roof maintenance? Should I do colour?
or any maintenance steps to enhance life of roof and advise for roof before installation of panel? Thanks
Hi @sunnyuaf,
Thank you for your question about maintenance to your Colourbond roof.
Are there any noticeable issues with your roof?
There's not a lot outside of cleaning and trimming branches away from the roof line that can be done as preventative maintenance.
Colourbond roofs can be repainted to restore aesthetics and protect the metal, but due to the height and risks involved in this sort of work, I would not advise it as a D.I.Y. solution.
The other thing to consider is that during a solar panel install, as the installer would need to access the roof, there is potential for damage to occur, so any maintenance to the roof should realistically be done after the installation.
If you could provide any further details, I'd be happy to offer more assistance.
Let me know.
Jacob
Thanks @JacobZ.
There is no major noticeable issue, I just bought the house and I was thinking to have a new paint if it helps to increase the life of roof. As after the installation of plates, roof will not be accessible under the solar plates.
What would be the best recommendations for Paint, Primer or cover coat? If you please advise steps and products that would be great. Thanks
Hi @sunnyuaf,
Due to the risks involved in working on a roof and the expertise required to achieve a quality finish, unfortunately, it's best left to the professionals.
They will have the tools and equipment to ensure a quality finish while maintaining their safety and the integrity of your roof.
They will likely use edge protection and harnesses to maintain their safety while using an industrial paint sprayer such as this Wagner ProSpray PS3.39 High Boy Paint Sprayer with high-quality paint and primer to achieve a quality finish.
You might like to use a service such as HiPages or True Local to look for a roof restoration business in your area.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
