Hi everyone,
Wondering if anyone knows of yards to stores around Sydney that specialise in recycled timber? I have a few projects around the house and would like to not purchase new timber for them if possible, but need quite long lengths so things like palettes won't work for these.
Thanks for any help!
Cheers, Danny.
Hi @dannyrus,
Hopefully, any Sydney members might be able to provide some options for you. Alternatively, a Google search reveals several reclaimed timber yards in the region. Personally, I haven't visited any as whenever I've looked for salvaged timber, it seems to command a price much higher than what you'd purchased the new timber for. It's a bit of a boutique market now where their sales are aimed at people looking for rustic material, not just cheap timber.
If you let us know some details about the type of timber you're looking for, that might help narrow down the search.

Thanks @MitchellMc - I've come across the same thing with more expensive recycled timber than new!
I'm putting together an entertainment wall in the living room, something like the image below (much smaller, this one's just a quick google image search). Basically it's a TV unit with some shelves around it.
One option was to buy secondhand units and cobble them together which might still be an option, but I like the idea of building something to fit so I can completely fill the available space - I just prefer to use salvaged wood if I can.
Not after any particular wood really as I'll probably paint it like in the picture... I'm not even sure where wood is typically salvaged from, would it be from home demolitions and that sort of thing?
Thanks to anyone who can switch on some lightbulbs for me
Let me mention a few of our talented woodworking members @r23on, @LePallet, @ProjectPete, @JoeAzza, @pete_brig and @kel to see if they have any thoughts.

Can recommend Wastewood in Annandale. http://www.wastewood.com.au they offer options to get your selected timber milled/thicknessed/planed etc
