I've bought an apartment and when moving in furniture the paint has been stripped off the door frame when boxes rubbed against the paintwork. I can literally rub off the paint with my hands . The paint used was Taubmans Easycote gloss because the painter left some excess paint for repairs. I want to replace it with something more hard wearing - I saw recommendations for Dulux on another forum
Hello @Salvestrol
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about painting your metal door frame.
Looking at the photo you posted, it appears that whoever painted it did not prepare the surface of the steel frame properly. Generally, the steel surface should have been sanded down and an etching primer placed on top before the topcoat was applied.
To recoat your frame, I suggest sanding the surface with a 240grit sandpaper. Once you've sanded the surface thoroughly, I recommend wiping it clean before putting on primer. I propose using White Knight Rust Guard 400g Grey SLS Etch Primer Spray Paint. Once the primer cures you can use a topcoat of your choice.
I recommend having a look at Dulux 1L Aquanamel Semi Gloss White Enamel Paint. It is tough wearing and designed to go on doors and window trims.

Thanks Eric ,
that was very helpful. I could tell it was not prepared properly but your suggestion of the etch primer answers my main concern.
I assume the Dulux Aquanamel can be tinted as required because I have to maintain the colour scheme for the building for my front door - Colorbond Cottage Green

Hello @Salvestrol
Yes, the paint can be tinted to the colour of your choice especially if you need to keep the colour scheme for your building. My best advice is to bring large colour chips or strips of the paint colour you want to match. The more you can share with the store paint specialist the better the paint match will be.
If you need further assistance, please let me know.
