Re: grey paint colour

Hello @trudhut

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about paint colour.

Light grey with with white undertones is a difficult colour to pin down because its tone changes to the colours that are present in the room. A blue couch, a large red carpet even an ordinary varnished floor reflects colour. These subtle colour tones will reflect on your wall and affect the final colour of your wall. Even the motion of sunlight as it travels through the day affects the colour in your house.

I suggest visiting your local store and going to the paint department and grabbing some colour samples in the neutral range and light grey sets. Attach the colour samples to your wall close to your window and observe the tonal shift as the day goes by. Observe them in the morning and at high noon, turn your lights on in the evening and look at the colours.

I've placed some colour samples below, but there are more available at the store. Colour choice is very subjective and what I see as light grey with white undertones others will see as something else. I encourage you to test the colours that make you happy.

Re: What grey paint colour has white undertones?

Hi @trudhut

Choosing colour is so much fun but also a potential abyss of indecision!

Firstly a simple lesson for you in colour - there is no such thing as white undertones.  Think of the extremes of white, adding little bits of black until you have full black. That isn't a 'colour' so to speak.  The grey you speak of is just the amount of black that goes in.

So let's think of it in reverse - you seem to want a very light grey /almost white.  The undertones will then be what makes it have a warm (creamy, pinky, yellow) or cool (greens, blues).  The safest is what is termed a neutral grey - but even these will usually fall on either warm or cool ends of neutral.

For a very light grey, looking almost white, and very neutral then I suggest Taubmans Ashen Mist in quarter tint, Platonic, Abstract Half.  In Dulux, then try Grand Piano Half, Limed White, Narrow Neck Quarter.  And some of those that @EricL mentioned too.

Definitely get a few testers to short list, brush them out in a few different places on walls with and without direct sunlight.

Good luck.

Re: What grey paint colour has white undertones?

Hi

Depending on how light a grey you want, you might want to try a colour called Egyptian cotton. It isn't in the normal range of colours but is a Dulux colour from the UK but the bunnings staff at my local store found the code for it and were able to mix me a sample pot.
