Laminate floor trim

Laminate floor trim

I have a timber laminate floor through hallway, lounge and kitchen.  The trim used throughout is also laminate so that where there has been areas which have been regularly wet, (I'm house training a puppy), the trim has expanded and is falling apart.  Is there a wooden trim I can get which will withstand some moisture?   Is non MDF wooden trim even made any more?

Re: Laminate floor trim

Hello @Sal2

Thanks for sharing your question about laminate floor trim. That's an excellent question. It's been a while since I've seen MDF wooden trim at the store. I'm afraid they've all turned them into aluminium. If you are after a transition piece going from one room to another, I suggest heading down to your local store and seeing which colour matches your floor or at least will compliment it.

I suggest using Roberts 3.3m Silver Floating Floor Junior Trim in conjunction with Roberts Ramp And Cover Trim Plug - 10 Pack. These are easy to install as you will just need to drill into the floor and push the trim in with the plug attached.

My nephew is going through the same phase at the moment. I believe their toilet time is every two hours for their young pup.

Please keep us updated with your progress, we look forward to seeing your flooring trims fixed.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Laminate floor trim

Thanks for your reply.  There's no transition between roo.s, just the trim to the walls.  What would you suggest I could use here?

Re: Laminate floor trim

Hi @Sal2

You're in luck, the Floating Floor Trim is still available. The only thing that comes to mind to protect them is to spray it with a clear coating. However, I'm not sure how it's going to affect the finish of the trim as it is moisture sensitive. Another suggestion would be to use timber trims, but you would need to paint them in the same shade as your floor so that they will not stand out. You might be able to get away with painting it white and making it look like it's part of the floor trim.

I suggest visiting your local store and speaking to the flooring specialist. They could have other ideas that might help with excess moisture exposure.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
