Interior timber window sills

Can I use Danish Oil on these sills or are they too far gone? Some are not as dry as this but dry and stained nonetheless.

Re: Interior timber window sills

Hi @kandafino

The timber looks in  good  condition apart  from the stain

But you will need a detailing sander to get into the corners and sand that stain out back to a uniform  timber color as the oil will show up any  marks

(90 grit  then 240 grit will speed the sanding process up.

Or  you  may wish to paint over the stains  an easier process,

Thanks for the reply. Should I use the dainish oil? Will that help when there is condensation in the winter as well?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kandafino. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about rejuvenating a window sill.

It's great to see that @Jewelleryrescue has been assisting.

While Danish oil can enhance the look of your timber, it might not be the best option for areas that regularly experience moisture, such as window sills prone to condensation. Oils can soak into the timber but don’t provide a fully protective barrier against water.

You might want to consider applying a stain to achieve your desired colour, followed by a hard, clear coating like Cabot's Cabothane. This will provide a more durable, water-resistant surface that allows you to easily wipe away condensation in the mornings without damaging the timber.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
