How to use two single security doors to make one double security door?

Hi There, I have a double front door that I need to make more secure.

I like the look of the Bastion Sutton Door that I can get from Bunnings.  These are only single doors, but I note that you can buy them with hinges on either side, and two of them together would be about the right dimensions.

However, can you get them with one lock in the middle that can join the two doors?

Thank you,

Have a great evening

PS here is a pic of the Bastion "2024 x 806mm Barrier Door Steel Frame Imperial Sutton Black".  Would look pretty good as a double door don't you think?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @markh4390. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about security doors.

I apologise for the delay in my reply.

I've contacted Bastion, and as this is a prefabricated door, no other options with different locking mechanisms are available. I've checked with our other suppliers, and I haven't been able to find anything that suits your needs. You might need to have this custom-made by a metal fabricator.

Let me tag a couple of our helpful members @Nailbag and @Dave-1 to see if they have any thoughts.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Good Afternoon @markh4390

Now that would look like a pretty spectacular door.

Only problem I can think of is how to secure the center of the two doors so its secure. A center post would be required to give the frame strength to resist let alone just stay close..

Mmmmm Thinking outside the door...

Would a 2024mm long piano hinge work between the doors? It would give security withthe join tho at the same time its a LOT of weight for the hinges to carry. You could have a door bolt down into the Door Sill and up into the top of the door frame in the middle to secure the first door from normal use. Then use the second half as your normal throughfare. That may help with the support issue? Will keep thinking tho

Hi @markh4390

Since @MitchellMc has confirmed these are not available through Bunnings suppliers, you can definitely order these from a number of suppliers, which are made to measure to suit your opening. Just google "French Opening Security Doors" and a list of local suppliers will appear.
