How to set up a gallery art hanging system?

I have two walls on which I want to set up a gallery hanging system. One wall is 3.25m long and I could hang art salon style on this floor to ceiling (standard heigh 2.4m). The other wall is 2.88m long, and I'd only hang art on the top half of the wall, with the buffet below it. These are gyprock/drywall.

I see that Bunnings sells its Gallery @ Home products for this purpose. I have two questions:

1. The railings are sold in 2m lengths. How/can I cut this rail so that I can use it to have a rail along the entire length of the wall? I'm not sure that we can even - and if not, I won't be able to use this product, I believe.

2. How do we attach the rail securely to the wall? I could see no guide holes on the rail, nor instructions, on the unopened view of the product at Bunnings.

None Bunnings staff knew the answers to the above, or anything about the gallery hanging system actually, so I'm hopeful someone can please help me learn here on the workshop forum.

If the above products can't be made to fit my wall lengths, do you know of other products that Bunnings sells do to this. I'm aware of the STAS system, outside of the Bunnings ecosystem.

thank you!

Re: Gallery/art hanging system questions

Hi @DrKMcB,

The track can definitely be cut to fit your wall lengths. For a clean, precise cut, I’d recommend using a mitre box along with a fine-toothed saw. This will help ensure smooth edges, and you'll be able to adjust the rail to fit perfectly along the length of both walls.

As for attaching the rail securely to the wall, the system uses concealed connectors that are screwed into either your timber studs or plasterboard. These connectors are hidden behind the rail, allowing for a sleek, seamless finish. Once the connectors are in place, the rail simply clips onto them. If you check out the product on the Bunnings website, there's a helpful video just below the product image that walks you through the installation process, which should clarify things further.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I’d be interested to know what the join looks like. I can’t seem to see if there is a joiner for the track. The 2m lengths look great on my smaller walls but I have a 3metre wall I want to sort.

Re: Gallery/art hanging system questions

Hello @cathie12

Your hanging wall art looks great. Please allow us to double check with Gallery@Home if there is a proper track joiner. As soon as we have more information, we'll get back to you.

But one method that you can try is to use the fixing clips as a bridge between two tracks. Technically you place the clip in position between the two tracks and fix it into the wall. One half of the clip will be taken by the first track, and the other half belongs to the extension. The join will be neat and from a distance should be easy to miss except if you were purposefully looking for it.

Thank you for your patience.

Thanks Eric,

After I posted I put up another track and discovered a joiner in the pack. A flat little plastic rectangle that slides into the track. I’m yet to give it a go but will post when I have.

That's great to hear, @cathie12. We can't wait to see the finished project.

Re: Gallery/art hanging system questions

I would love to see how it goes, too! I've baulked at doing this, as I don't have mitre box and saw to cut the track to fit our wall size (and don't know how to put the connectors into our drywall so it all aligns, and is secure). Haven't worked up the courage to try yet haha

Re: Gallery/art hanging system questions

Hi @DrKMcB,

The video on the Gallery@Home 2m White Track Picture Hanging Pack shows the process of installation quite well, but if there were any particular things you are concerned about, I'd be more than happy to offer some guidance.

It would be great to see both you and @cathie12's finished projects with some fantastic art hanging on your walls.
