Hello,

I want to restore the front door but I don’t know how to go about fixing the veneer that is peeling away/coming off.

It’s only along the bottom at the front, the rest of the door is in good nick apart from needing a refresh.

Thanks ☺️

Re: How to restore front door with peeling veneer?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Karleeputts. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing a door.

Given that the veneer has peeled away extensively and is cracked into shards reaching about a third up the door, unfortunately, repairing it would be challenging. Any attempt at restoration would likely result in a substandard finish due to the amount of damage.

One option would be to strip the remaining veneer entirely, but rebuilding the door to its original thickness would require a significant amount of work. You’d likely need to use Builders Bog or a similar filler to build up the door’s thickness, then sand it smooth and paint the door. This approach could work, but it would take a lot of time and effort and may not provide the long-lasting or quality finish you’re looking for.

Given the extent of the veneer damage, it might be worth considering a replacement door, especially if you’re after a high-quality, durable finish. Even ornate glass panel doors like the Corinthian 2040 x 820 x 40mm Entrance Door Windsor Bevelled Kookaburra Glass start at a reasonable price, considering you'd likely be set back at least 100 dollars on the filler and materials to repair your current door.

If you do decide to replace we also have a door installation service that you might like to take advantage of.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
