I have a set of double sliding fly screen doors that I want to replace with security mesh(not the diamond grill style). I want one of these doors to have a pet door also. I am wondering if a pair of doors in this style can be converted to a sliding door? Or is there another style of door I need to track down? I want the new door to have a white frame also to match the glass sliding doors that are there already.
Hello @kat3
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your questions about replacing your sliding screen door.
Unfortunately, it will be extremely difficult to modify the Polar Screen Door. It will require specialist tools and equipment, plus you'll also need the correct sized aluminium extrusion to modify the frame. There is also the possibility that the frame itself is not thick enough to accept the roller wheel housing.
One option is to re-use the existing sliding doors and install either aluminium mesh or pet mesh. However, it will be necessary to add custom aluminium bracing at the bottom to accommodate the pet door. A bit of design testing will be necessary in order to mount the pet door properly.
If that option proves to be too involved, my only other suggestion is to get a quote from a dedicated aluminium security door company. You can at least be confident that the sliding screen door will fit, and the pet door will be properly mounted.
