How to replace sliding door gasket?

Hello,

I recently moved into a new home and have noticed that the glass sliding door makes a lot of noise whenever there is wind or when the door is moved.

Upon inspection, I found that the issue is due to the glass not being properly fixed to the aluminum frame. The gasket between the glass and frame has become hard and some sections are missing.

Could you please advise on how I can replace the gasket? Alternatively, is there a better solution to address the noise issue?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Shane W

Re: How to replace sliding door gasket?

Hello @ShaneW

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your windows.

The rubber piece you are after is very particular and comes in many styles. I'm sorry, but Bunnings does not carry window channel glass gaskets.

However, it is possible to fill the gap with Selleys 310g Clear Glass Silicone Sealant. It is a 100% silicone acetic acid which forms a durable, weatherproof seal with excellent adhesion to glass. It’s been designed for use on glass aquariums, as well as sealing windows and window frames, and repairing gaskets in washing machines, fridges, ovens and dryers.

One other option is to engage the services of a professional glazier who can disassemble your window frame and replace the rubber gasket with a new one.

Please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves and goggles when working on your repairs.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
