How to repair render (rockcote) on external house wall?

Hi all,

I've read through some great render repair jobs in this forum but have not come across one where they have repaired an example where a final layer of Rockcote texture has been applied. Any tips and tricks would be most appreciated. Please see the pictures below.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Yangaz. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing render.

Did you have any questions or concerns that our helpful member could assist you with? The only difference between repairing a textured render and a normal smooth render is that you'll need to match the texture of the surrounding wall to achieve an unnoticeable repair. Make sure that when you apply the render, you use a tool like a dry stiff bristle paintbrush to stipple the finish and pull up peaks to mimic the rough look of the surrounding wall.

Apart from texturing, it's a straightforward process. Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to render

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to repair render (rockcote) on external house wall

Thanks, @MitchellMc , if I was okay with a subtle difference could I use something like this to repair it?

https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-gap-filler-435g-spakfilla-heavy-duty-interior-and-exterior_p1232...

It's a light grey finish which is similar to my render. The only headache with the rockcote is you cannot buy small sample sets and have to mix a whole can.

Thanks again

Yes, you could use that product @Yangaz, and you'd still be able to stipple it to match the surrounding texture. Just make sure to start texturing it as soon as you apply it, so it doesn't set before you have time to.

Thanks @MitchellMc I wasn't going to texture it as it's hard to get small samples of the Rockcote texture.

@Yangaz,

By texture, I mean applying a stippled finish to the filler with a device, not applying a Rockcote texture. You apply the filler and then, with a repeated tapping motion, create a rough, stippled pattern over the smooth filler. A brush with cut-down bristles works well for this process.
