How to repair door frame?

Hi,

One of my door jambs has rotted out and so can't mount the security screen any more. As the bottom of it is below ground level, to avoid complicating it I am looking at cutting out half of the damaged area and replacing it. The existing is 90x45 hardwood and wondering what product at bunnings would suit best?

Re: Repairing door frame

Hi @Rolytav,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you join us.

There are products such as this 90 x 45mm 3.6m Outdoor Framing F27 Hardwood KD Solid Pack Rate which will match the size and material well, but it will have to be ordered through your local store's Special Orders or Trade Desk and there would be a lot of waste material. This might be a good option if you could utilise the remaining material elsewhere.

You could also use this 90 x 45mm Framing MGP10 H2 Blue Pine, but they often come with mill marks, meaning it will not be a smooth surface that will match the existing.

The best option in my opinion is to use this 90 x 42mm 3.6m F7 H3 Treated Pine Primed LOSP and pack the brick side of the timber with window packers to achieve the 45mm thickness. The gap this would create can then be filled with Selleys No More Gaps Exterior Gap Filler before painting.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
