Hello,
I'm helping my sister out as she would like to remove the whole door frame and door etc and keep it as a wall for more space inside for her laundry.
Please see photos. Is this a straight forward job for someone like myself who is a handy DIY person or needs someone professional? The house is weatherboard as you can see the electrics are on the side of the door frame.
Thank you!
Hello @annaluno
Thanks for sharing your question about your door frame. In this particular instance, I suggest engaging the services of a builder. The stud frame plus the installation of insulation and weatherboard might need to be sighted and signed off by an inspector.
Before you begin, I suggest checking your local council's rules and regulations regarding the removal of a door on your outside wall. In regards to the electrics, if it is no longer needed, I suggest having it removed by a licensed electrician.
Generally speaking, it's probable that the builder will remove the old frame and a timber stud wall built. It will then be covered with a moisture barrier along with insulation before the weatherboard is placed over it. Inside your house, a plasterboard wall will need to be installed.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
