How to prepare old, oil-based enamel trim for water-based enamel?

The doors and trims in my house are currently painted with a mix of water and oil-based enamel that is probably around 15 years old. Is Dulux 1 Step Prep a suitable primer before painting over the oil-based sections with water-based enamel?

Also, it says that sanding is not required on most surfaces. If the existing enamel is gloss, should it be sanded first?

Thanks!

Hello @ludicrousgib

Yes, you can use it Dulux 1 Step Prep on old oil-based sections. But it would be safer to sand the surface of the doors and trims first to make sure that the surface is ideal for the primer to go on to. The last thing you want to happen is to see parts of your paintwork peeling off.

Please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when working on your project.
