The Bunnings Workshop community can help with your home improvement projects.
Hi, we want to paint the inside of our home over the next few months. Please recommend the best way to prepare the wood skirts, doors and wall panels for painting.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Robanni. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about painting timber.
You can either lightly sand back the timber with 180-grit sandpaper to remove any sheen level from the varnish and then prime and paint, or you can use a special preparation product like Flood 500ml ESP Easy Surface Paint Preparation directly over the varnish and then paint. I suspect using the ESP will be the far easier solution, especially given the amount of timberwork.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
