Hi all, I want to paint my daughters bed white. It is an IKEA bed in a dark chocolate brown. I am not sure what kind of timber it is, likely nothing special. Where the bed has been scratched etc you can see ‘blonde’ timber underneath. My question relates to how can I best paint this bed white? What kind of paint do I use and what kind of preparation is required. I’m hoping to use a spray gun to paint it.
Hello @caxelby
Because of the dark base of your bed frame, I recommend sanding the surface back down to timber. Once you've removed as much of the dark stain on the surface, I suggest using Zinsser 1L White Bulls Eye Primer Undercoat Sealer And Stain Blocker. This primer will seal and block off any dark colours or stains that are in the wood itself. Once the primer cures you can then use a topcoat of your choice from Dulux Wash and Wear to Taubmans Easy Coat.
