How to move downpipe to another spot?

 Hi

We have recently bought this house and I wonder if the downpipe running in the middle of the front porch could be moved at all? If so, where could it go, considering the shape of this roof?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @annastevej. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about relocating a downpipe.

That's likely a question best answered by a plumber that specialises in drainage. They'll need to take a look at where you stormwater pipes run and determine whether there is another route the downpipe could take. 

I presume the gutter at the front has been sloped towards the centre. If it was redone and sloped towards the left-hand side, then you could potentially shift the downpipe location to there. However, it looks like you have a concrete slab underneath, so this would need to be dug up to reconnect the downpipe to stormwater.

So, it is possible, but it could take considerable work to perform the shift.

Hi @annastevej wow that's pretty thoughtless of the plumber with that downpipes. Good news though that it can be moved! and best done by a qualified plumber as they will have the knowledge, special tools and qualification to provide the best resolution. The cheapest and simplest will be to move it slightly to the right of the window which, should still work fine with the existing fall of the gutters as mentioned by @MitchellMc. Then there will need to be a bit of a dogleg at the bottom to realign it with the connection into the concrete. You could paint the section down the brick line the same dark colour as the gutter to blend in better.

Since your on a slab, the point to which that section of guttering is limited to the existing point in the slab and the fall of the gutters, though this can be readjusted. So, moving the down pipe more substantially is highly unlikely. But again a plumber will know what options are available.
