How to install a sliding window lock?

Hello

How can I install a sliding window lock? It doesn’t seem to attach properly. If this lock isn't suitable for my window, could you suggest other basic lock options?

Re: sliding window lock

Hello @kingj

Thanks for sharing your question about window locks. The window rail on your window is too short and that's why the lock is not clamping onto the window. However, I believe you can replace your existing lock with Whitco 4 Pack Sliding Window Push Lock as they look similar to your existing locks. Another option is to use Ikonic White Multibolt Window Lock - 4 Pack

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: sliding window lock

Hello @kingj

The only other lock I can suggest is the Remsafe Black Venlock Mini VL2 Window Restrictor, hope fully it is small enough to catch onto your aluminium rail. My only other thought is to drill another hole for your permanent lock so that you can technically keep the window partially open permanently.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: sliding window lock

Good evening @kingj

I was thinking maybe buy a piece of aluminium flat bar to slip between the screw and that second rail of the window.

Metal Mate 20 x 1.6mm 1m Silver Aluminium Flat Bar - Silver 1m It may need triming down but hopefully will fit right in.

Re: How to install a sliding window lock?

Hi @kingj

Here are some options that just 2-weeks ago I used to address the same issue when installing those locks on several 2nd level sliding windows.

I used an angle grinder held with vice grips to trim off one or both edges of a lock to suit the frame. Alternatively you can simply drill a hole through the window frame and use a bolt and nut to restrict the opening. This method is just as easy to remove when required as the bought lock.
