How to fix screen door lock latch?

I have a screen door where the main lock latch (the hook bolt) has started popping out every time you open the door handle and so when the door closes it doesn’t latch as the bolt prevents the door from going all the way into the door frame, unless you hold the handle down. Hopefully there’s an easy fix to this?

Thank you for your question about your screen door lock.

I have identified your lock as a Lockwood 8654 Hinged Security Door Lock.

Unfortunately, when the internal mechanisms in locks start to malfunction, due to their complexity, there is not often a lot you can do besides replacing them.

You could try removing and reinstalling the lock, to see if this helps, but I'm not confident this will have much of an effect. If you'd like to give this a try, you can use the Lockwood 8654 Security Hinged Screen Door Lock Manual as a guide

If you'd like to replace the mechanism, speak with your local Bunnings Special Orders team, who will be able to order a replacement lock for you.
