Hi, Can someone please suggest me how to fix loose door handles. The door has handles on both sides and it is loose from.both sides. I could notice grub screw holes on the bottom side of the handle and it is very inconvenient to tighten them.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @navdeepkaushal. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about tightening door handles.
Are there any grub screws in those holes? I can't see any in your pictures, but they might be recessed deep down inside the threads.
It's likely inconvenient to tighten them, but ideally, they shouldn't come loose again once you've done so. You'll need to select the correct sized Allen key to suit them and then tighten them until the handles are no longer loose. If you find the grub screws are loosening off again, you can add some thread locker to their threads before inserting them. This product will stop them from backing out over time.
There's a reasonable chance that the grub screws have actually fallen out. In that case, you can replace them with those in these grub screw kits.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell, Thanks for your response.
I have checked the holes and found that grub screw are in there and are tight. In fact, I unscrewed them slightly and tried to position the handles closer to the door and tighten them again. But unfortunately it didn't work. Any suggestions please.
Sorry @navdeepkaushal.
Having another look at this, the grub screws fix the square cover plates to the internal mechanism; they don't have anything to do with loose door handles. I suggest removing the grub screws entirely and then taking off the square cover plates. Inside you'll find a set of screws that clamp the door handles onto either side of the door. It's these internal screws that likely need tightening to fix the loose handles. Once you've tightened them, you can re-install the cover plates.
Give that a go.
Mitchell
Thanks Mitchell. Removing the square cover plate helped. Many thanks for your guidance.
