Hello!
The push lock on my doorknob has stopped working and hoping for advice as to how to fix, or if not possible, replace.
The lock is currently unable to press in at all. I have tried jiggling the doorknob while continuing to press, and can find one position where the lock presses entirely in but does not catch (ie. it feels loose and like it is not attached to any mechanism). The door latch still moves as usual, so I am able to open and close the door, just not lock it. I have also tried pressing a safety pin into the lock while jiggling but that doesn’t seem to work.
If I need to remove the whole door knob, grateful for any advice as to how to do so noting the screws seem to be hidden under the plate which I will need to release.
Thanks so much!
Hello @KMc1
Thanks for sharing your question about your doorknob. Usually when the push locking mechanism in a doorknob starts to fail it means that part of the locking mechanism has either started to wear down or has failed all together. There are no replacement parts available for the doorknob, so your only option is to replace it. I suggest having a quick look at this guide - How to change a door knob. This will give you a general idea of how to take your door knob apart and replace it with a new one.
I've placed an image below to indicate the parts you need to look at in order to release the door handle and the cover flange. As to the replacement set, I suggest looking at the Lane Satin Stainless Steel Ceres Entrance Knobset.
