Hello!
the bottom of my doorframe in the bathroom has some rust that’s come from a leaking shower screen. How do I fix the rust so I can repaint over it?
thanks
Alex
Hi @Al-renos,
You'll need to start by scraping and sanding away any loose rust, ideally down to the bare metal. You can use a wire brush or sandpaper for this. Once you’ve removed the loose rust, you can treat the exposed metal with a rust converter such as White Knight Rust Guard Rust Converter (0.125L), which will help neutralise any remaining rust and prevent further corrosion.
If the rust has caused significant damage or eaten away part of the metal, you can fill the affected area with Builders Bog. Once applied, sand the filler back to a smooth surface once it’s dried, making sure it’s level with the surrounding area.
After all of this, you can prime the area with a metal primer to ensure proper paint adhesion, and then paint over the surface to finish the repair.
Be sure to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, a dust mask, and gloves to protect yourself from rust particles, sanding dust, and any chemicals you may use.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
