The Bunnings Workshop community can help with your home improvement projects.
Many thanks for joining the Bunnings Workshop community. You have joined a friendly, helpful community of people who are happy to roll the sleeves up and get stuck into home improvement projects.
We try to encourage everyone to have a go and will happily provide the advice and support you need. If you need a hand with a project, please don’t hesitate to click on the Start a discussion button. We have plenty of community members keen to share their experience and knowledge.
If you need a tradesperson to assist you, we recommend you try a site like Airtasker or hipages. We sometimes get members on Workshop asking for recommendations for tradespeople in their area, but Workshop is a community for people right across Australia and New Zealand so it is unlikely that there will be a member near you who can recommend someone suitable. It's best to go direct to a site that is designed for that purpose.
Feel free to reach out any time you need help getting the most from the Workshop site or have any feedback about how we can make Workshop more useful for you.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Gammon7. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about locating a handyperson.
As this is a D.I.Y. community, our knowledgeable members would be more than happy to assist you with guidance on your projects if you wish to give them yourself. However, if you are looking to enlist the services of a handyperson, then I'd suggest you consider services such as Airtasker or hipages.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hello community,
I am renovating a kitchen and had the demo guys strip out the old kitchen and tiles. The walls need to be rendered again and I am trying to look for a renderer to help.
Question, I see many people on Airtasker who work with plaster boards and plastering/patching plaster boards. Is what they use to render different when compared to a brick wall? What render should they be using and will they be able to carry out the job if they are experienced only working with plaster boards? Image for reference.
Hi @bhushan154 sorry I can't really help, from what I understand it's different to plastering, no reason they couldn't do both but it would be up to their skill set. Looks like a fun project!
Hello @bhushan154
Thanks for sharing your question about rendering your brick wall. The general steps are to clean your brick wall with a stiff bristle brush this will remove all the loose debris in the wall. I then suggest using Dunlop 1L Multipurpose Water Based Primer to prepare the surface for rendering. For the render itself, I recommend Dunlop 20kg Fine Coat Render.
Is that a functioning fireplace you have on the left of your picture? Will you still be using it? Please note that if it is a functioning fireplace, you'll need to use heat rated mortar or mortar that is meant for use around a fireplace. Ordinary mortar will not work around your fireplace.
Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to render. (the techniques used are applicable to your project)
If you need someone to do it for you, I suggest posting the job on either Airtasker or Hipages make sure to put as much detail as possible so that you'll get an early reply.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Thank you @EricL. Would this be an equivalent product and would it work on brick walls? Gyprock Easy Flow All Purpose Compound
Hi @bhushan154,
Thank you for your question.
My suggestion for a plaster product that can be applied over brick is Gyprock CSR 20kg Hardwall Plaster, which needs to be mixed with hydrated lime following the manufacturer's instructions.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Where can I find the appropriate trades to do this project?
Hello @AudreyJ
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about building a retaining wall.
I suggest engaging the services of a local builder if possible or posting the job on Airtasker and Hipages. By putting in as much detail as you can regarding the project, you'll get a better chance of an immediate response. Please remember to always ask for references so that you can see their past work.
Your picture shows that there is already a channel dug in, will you be placing the retaining wall in this area? In which direction will it be facing? Any extra details you can tell us about your project would be very much appreciated.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
Eric
Hi @bhushan154,
As this is not a product we supply, I am unfamiliar with its uses. It would be best to open a conversation with the tradesperson to discuss your concerns. This might be a product they've chosen to use due to prior experience with it. You could also contact the product manufacturer to discuss whether this is a suitable use for their product.
