How to fill mortar gaps between concrete block walls?

My aim is to use Murabond cement based paint (with added sand) on my block walls to give them some texture. And cover the mortar gaps.

First i need to fill the mortar gaps.
My plan is to seal them with Bondcrete then fill with mortar with some Bondcrete added.
I’m not sure if possible for a handy amateur.

Is there an easier way with an engineered filler?

I would like one pass to be sufficient.

Appreciated.

Re: How to fill mortar gaps between concrete block walls?

Hi @moiranne,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

There is no real need for you to use Bondcrete in this situation. You can simply clean and repoint the mortar lines before painting.

I'd suggest cleaning the mortar lines using a Trojan 5x15 Row Brass Wire Brush to remove as much loose material as possible. Once cleaned, you will then repoint the bricks by using a Hyde 13mm Tuck Pointing Trowel to push the mortar into the gaps.

Once the mortar has dried a bit, you can use a brickies brush to tidy up the mortar lines before painting with your chosen cement paint.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jacob
