Re: how to clean windows with security grills

Hi kylie26...

I have used with success a hose spray gun..the type that has a cylinder underneath..Like this type  https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/335346011731?itmmeta=01JEM2B6SXQYCARYAFSGSQQ5XM&hash=item4e142e0e53:g:5Z...

You fill the cylinder with a detergent and select the type of spray on the selector that you want..

Unfortunately normal detergents tend to leave streaks..but what I use doesn't leave any streaks..

All you have to do is dissolve a dish washer tablet in a jar ( like a gherkin size jar.) in some hot water and pour that into the cylinder on the sprayer unit..

You will most likely use up that small cylinder a few times so just keep an eye on the flow..

The best way to do it is to just spray water on the windows first..wait for 1/2 hr. and then  spray the detergent and leave to drain off..

You should have spotless windows.!

Re: how to clean windows with security grills

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kylie26. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about cleaning windows.

It's great to see that @Prof has already provided a helpful response.

Have you checked to see if the windows can be removed from inside? Typically, sliding windows can be removed by gripping the frame on either side and pushing it up into the top track. This allows clearance on the bottom track for the bottom of the frame to be pulled out of it. You can then lower the window down and out of the top track.

Remember to enlist a hand if they are larger windows, and remember that the glass can shatter easily if knocked. Wear PPE whilst doing so, including safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, a long-sleeved shirt, trousers and enclosed shoes.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
