Hi, the lamp holder on an old lamp base needs to be replaced and while the wiring to a new lamp holder is straightforward I don't know how to attach it to the lamp base so it's solid and the lamp shade doesn't make it wobble off the base. The old one looks like it might have been attached with some kind of screw & nut that's long gone - the bottom of the lamp base is open & can get access that way. Appreciate any advice.
Hello @fionaeye
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your lamp.
Just a friendly reminder that any electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrician.
In order to give our members a better idea of the lamp's configuration, would it be possible for you to post a few photos of the lamp itself. Once we see the lamp, we should be able to assess its assembly and provide recommendations on how to put it together.
If you need a hand posting the photos, please let me know.

Hi Eric
Thanks for your response & yes, totally understand electricians must carry out electrical work.
Here's a couple of pics of the current old lamp holder I want to replace. The lamp holder has a screw fitting at the bottom & underneath there is an old fitting that screws onto it. I don't think these will fit the Bunnings HPM Switched Lamp Holder (that says it has a brass thread, but reviews dispute this) or the DETA Rocker Switch Lamp Holder. It's tricky to see if the end of the DETA screws off to fill this function as there's no description of this on the website and everything is sadly in plastic which means you can't check in store.
Thanks for your help
Fiona
Hi @fionaeye,
What you require is a lamp holder that comes with the plastic threaded conduit that connects the lamp holder to the base as your one has snapped. You can see it partially sticking out of the lamp holder at the bottom and the rest has migrated down the cord where you can see it with the nut still attached. I don't believe our lamp holders, such as the HPM Switched Lamp Holder, come with them, as there are various sizes.
Through some investigation, I've managed to find one that HPM supplies that comes with the threaded conduit. The part number is HPM310/10WE, and the Special Orders team at your local store should be able to order it for you. When you head to the store, it would be worth checking with one of our electrical department team members just to triple-check that none of our lamp holders come with this threaded conduit or that we have it sold separately.
Don't lose the thin metal nut that is still on the snapped section of your threaded conduit; you'll need it for the new one.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell
Thanks for the clarification & figuring out what lamp holder I need - I'll make sure I keep the nut & chat with special orders.
Thanks again
Fiona
