How should I treat and protect indoor timber window sills?

Hi,

I've recently bought a house that was newly fitted with beautiful timber window sills.

I can tell they are dry, and they are becoming easily damaged by condensation/water staining /sun.

What is the best oil to project them with? I'm not wanting to change the look, just preserve them.

Thank you

Re: How should I treat and protect indoor timber window sills?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @BigBuilder. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about coating window frames.

You could use Cabot's 1L Clear Danish Oil for this purpose. Remember that any un-nourished timber, when coated with oil, will become darker. It won't change the colour, but it will deepen it.

This product will provide a matt protective finish and can be applied with a brush, roller or rag.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you, I've also read wax based products could be an option, are these recommended?

Wax products would provide a similar water-resistant and protective barrier, @BigBuilder. However, wax isn't often used for sealing timber these days and is typically reserved for furniture.
