How do I attach a new flyscreen sill to an existing flyscreen frame?

I am replacing an old window winder with a whitco window winder. The positioning of the new window winder does not fit the current flyscreen frame and sill (see pictures). Plan to remove the old rivets replace the existing sill and custom cut to fit around the new winder.

A search in Bunnings only brings up the following: https://www.bunnings.com.au/pillar-1-25m-white-sill-section-flyscreen-frame_p0086347

1. How do I attach this to the existing flyscreen frame? or is there a better solution?

2. Is there a black version or will I need to spray paint it black to match the frame?

Re: How do I attach a new flyscreen sill to an existing flyscreen frame?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @misohandy. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing a fly screen.

To attach the new flyscreen sill to the existing frame, you'll need to custom-cut the sill section to fit around the new window winder. Once you have the correct size and shape, pop riveting would be the best solution for securing the sill to the frame. Simply align the sill with the frame, drill small pilot holes if necessary, and use pop rivets to fasten the two pieces together. This will provide a sturdy and neat finish, much like how the old filler was attached.

Regarding the colour, there isn’t currently a black version of the sill section available. If you want it to match the black frame, spray painting is a practical option. Make sure to use a spray paint that’s suitable for metal surfaces such as Dulux 300g Metalshield Epoxy Enamel Spray Paint Satin Black and apply it in thin, even coats for a durable finish. Alternatively, you can reach out to the Special Orders team at your local Bunnings store to see if a black version can be ordered directly from the supplier once they reopen. This may save you the effort of painting if a matching version is available.

Let us know if you have further questions.
