How easy/hard is it to paint your own roof tiles? What do you recommend please?
Thanks
Hello @Jacdoitmyself
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about painting your roof tiles.
I would probably rate this activity as very difficult. Because painting your roof tiles not only includes painting but is basically a revamp of your roofing tiles. This includes washing the tiles with a power washer and treating the tiles by removing the mould and mildew on it. You then need to repoint the rooftiles as part of the pointing will wash off.
Some of your tiles will need to be repaired and patched and once that's over, then you can prepare the roof for painting. An experienced roof restoration and painting specialist will be able to do all of this for you. They will also have the necessary gear such as scaffolding and safety harnesses to prevent them from sliding off the roof. They will also be insured, just in case a can of paint slides off the roof and lands on your driveway making a big mess.
Can you do it as a D.I.Y. project? Yes, but it will be extremely involved and will require you to invest in equipment that you'll probably only use once. Since this is the first time you'll be doing it, any mistake on the tile restoration could be costly. I therefore suggest getting quotes from roof painting firms so that you'll have an idea of what the going rate is in your area.
