I’m wanting to paint my sons room but the previous paint was a Paint with Teflon for easy cleaning. Will I be able to paint straight over the top?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kimjm. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about coating over paint with a Teflon additive.
Since paints with included Teflon are somewhat specialised, I suggest the best place to look for information regarding coating over it would be with the paint manufacturer. You could test a primer suitable for hard to paint surfaces like the Dulux 1L PRECISION Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer White. Once it's dry, place some clear sticky tape onto the Teflon coating, across the primer and back onto the Teflon coating. Pull the tape off at a 90-degree angle to the wall. If the primer pulls off as well, the test has failed. If it stays put, you should be fine to coat the entire wall. If the test fails and you cannot get further advice from the manufacturer, you'll likely need to sand the entire area to remove the coating.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
