Can I get paint tinted by numbers?

Hi Community,

I got a sample pot of paint, It goes on the right colour, but then dries a lot darker. I noticed the EE, LL numbers and wondered if I can buy a sample using those? E.g.

The original 10L can is EE 25, LL 7.5, M 10.

If I scale that down to a sample 0.2L pot, should be EE 0.5, LL 0.15, M 0.2 (not sure if that's how it works)

The same pot I got quoting the actual colour had EE 0.625, LL 0.188, M 0.25.

So I wondered if I could get a sample pot quoting my numbers to see how that looks? Has anyone done this?

Thank you

Re: Can I get paint tint by numbers

Hello @Chase1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about paint.

It sometimes happens that paint changes tone when it dries off and goes darker. I suggest taking your paint can and bringing it back to the store and speaking to the paint specialist and explain to them what's happened. They can scale the paint formula down to a sample pot and it is possible to lighten the formula. But the paint specialist might have questions to ask so it's best that you have something to show them.

I propose looking at the sample paint cards and double checking the original colour that you wanted. Another reason that the paint might have looked darker is the surrounding environment. Is it in a hallway or a place that is away from the window? Do you have dark furniture and carpeting or flooring? These factors also affect the paints final look.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: Can I get paint tint by numbers

Thanks for the response @EricL much appreciated.

I might head into store and talk to someone. The problem I have is the sample card matches the wall that was previously painted, and the sample pot is exactly the colour I want when I apply it, but darkens when drying. That's why I wondered if Bunnings would work off numbers I gave them.

Re: Can I get paint tint by numbers

Hi @Chase1

I'm quite certain they will be more than willing to discuss the formula numbers with you.

Another way you can get a colour match is to cut a 10c piece out of your wall with a craft knife. I suggest getting the sample from behind the door so that it's not easily visible. Bring this piece to the store and they will be able to put it under the colour matching machine and build a formula for you. Please don't forget to repair the damage behind the door once you have your paint sorted. 😄

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
