It can be a challenge to stay cool in the summer, especially during soaring temperatures.

Bunnings Workshop members have shared many D.I.Y. projects to help them beat the heat without cranking up the aircon and spending a fortune on power bills.

Below are some examples. Let us know if you need a hand with any of them. We’d be happy to assist.

1. Make a drinks cooler

Perfect for outdoor summer entertaining, Workshop member @nparrella95's outdoor storage box with built-in drinks cooler can keep drinks cold while keeping the area neat and uncluttered.

6. Add a cantilever umbrella

Cantilever umbrellas are large and can be easily swung around as the sun rotates, maximising shade in outdoor areas. Workshop member @raymond265 uses one in his fire pit entertaining area with seating and planter boxes.

7. Build an outdoor kitchen

Cooking indoors on a summer day can increase your home's temperature and force your aircon to go into overdrive, resulting in higher energy bills. Outdoor kitchens can be more energy-efficient and are ideal for cooking and entertaining in the summer, like this outdoor kitchen makeover with pizza oven by member @jeffjen.
